Onwards and upwards for the cherry and whites with Groundsure’s support

We are proud sponsors of the First XV and also the youth and development teams at Camborne Rugby Football Club in Cornwall. Based close to our offices at the Pool Innovation Centre, the club has just had a highly successful first season in the English Rugby Union National League 2 West, which has just come to a close.

The Cherry & Whites  were promoted into the 4th tier of the English Rugby Union pyramid last year and recorded a string of highly impressive home and away victories against seasoned opposition which kept them in the top half of the table all season.

Camborne’s Hooker Ben Priddey remarkably scored 31 tries this season, making him the top try and points scorer in National League 2 West.  There is no rest for him in the off season either as he captains the Cornwall county team.

Aside from a memorable local derby draw and a win against Redruth, the first XV also chalked up a very impressive 59-22 away win to Exeter University (including 5 from Ben Priddey), well known as a feeder club for the Premiership Exeter Chiefs side.  They finished in a highly creditable 6th place with a 50% win record, not bad as they come up against far stiffer opposition.

The youth teams have also excelled once again this season, with the Girls U16 squad rounding off an impressive season with a victory against Newquay Hornets to lift the cup in their league.

Also, the Camborne Colts Boys side ended their season on a high with a close game against Launceston to pick up the Cornwall Colts Finals Day Bowl Cup after lifting the Plate Cup last year.  The grit and determination these young players showed to come back from being 5-20 down at half time was remarkable to watch. Their enthusiasm will, I’m sure, be carried forward to future years as they progress their career though the club.

Equal to the sporting success on the pitch, is what has been achieved at the club over the last 12 months or so. When we signed up to support the staff and players at Camborne, our goal was not only to bring further success through investment in the club, but also to grow its local and area following and, for the youth teams, build a sense of pride and purpose in wearing the club shirt.  The club fosters a sense of pride and community, which are certainly values that we hold close.  Colin Stevenson said “A very big thank you to Groundsure. Your support for this group of players has made a big difference

In recent months, the club has been able to refurbish the area outside the clubhouse providing needed additional seating and a location for an outside bar when it’s needed.  The club has installed and opened a new food and drinks outlet  behind the main stand. This is all vital to help sustain its long term growth as the first XV has to meet growing costs from travelling further than most clubs in the league.

Groundsure’s support for the club has been part of an amazing transformation that we have seen over the last few years here at Crane Park.” said Colin Stevenson, part of the Camborne RFC Sponsorship and Community Team. “Their commitment to support our community through our junior squads and bringing the best of Cornish legal, construction and property businesses together has been admirable. We are delighted to be working with them again for another season, it means the world to all of us.”

Of course, for us it has also been a really important social and business focus for our Cornwall and wider management teams.  The spirit and energy of a club at the heart of its community is inspiring and our guests and suppliers who attend alongside us feel that too.

We are delighted to be continuing our sponsorship for the 2024-2025 season and look forward to supporting The Cherry & Whites to even greater success and (you never know) promotion again as the prize at the end!

Colin Stevenson, Sponsorship and Community Manager said “Camborne’s 6th place finish is a fantastic effort on our return to National League Rugby. In addition, our very own Ben Priddey was the top try and points scorer in the league. Without the support of our sponsorship partners, none of this success would be possible, so thank you one and all.
